The anthurium is one of the most popular plants among women, it is colorful, easy to care for and reproduce even without having a garden or open space to cultivate it.

Anthurium flourishes

It is a plant suitable for the apartment,  which is why it is very widespread as well as very appreciated for its beautiful flowers.

Although it is very simple,  this plant native to tropical regions  is considered one of the most beautiful of all time.

The characteristics of the Anthurium

The Anthurium’s main feature is the bright red, upturned leaf, followed by an elongated spike that bears hermaphrodite flowers. In nature, there are 500 different species, varying in color and shape,  but they are all beautiful.

The stems can reach 10 cm in height, they can be used to make magnificent bouquets of flowers. Before purchasing an Anthurium plant, you should consider the  climatic conditions of your home or the region where you live.

Generally speaking, it needs a lot of light, water within certain limits but a lot of humidity which allows it to resist and live a long time. As for pruning, just remove the dry leaves, there is nothing else to do.

Then it is important to know that it is toxic, so if you have animals at home you should  keep them away as much as possible.

How to take care of the plant to ensure optimal growth

To live 100% well, the seedling needs humidity and soil composed as follows: peat, sand and garden soil.  It must be placed away from drafts, exposed to the sun but not directly  which could kill it.

In winter, the anthurium should never be left outside if it is 15 degrees or less, so we can deduce that it is not a plant that can be left in the garden, on the windowsill or on the balcony. Temperature changes can also be dangerous or even fatal.

As for water, you can water it twice a day if it is very hot or  once every 2-3 days in winter, without exaggerating.  It is advisable to pour the water directly into the saucer to avoid letting it rise directly onto it.

This method, although it is the most widespread  , can kill the plants, whatever they are. So if you have this habit, it is best to change it in the short term. If you are undecided and don’t know whether to give water or not, just observe the plant.

If the leaves turn yellow it means the plant needs water, if you want to have further proof we recommend putting your finger in the soil, if it is damp this is not necessary. If it is dry, it is better to wet it a little.

Anthurium multiplication here is how to proceed

And now let’s move on to plant propagation, a topic that interests most people. After all, who wouldn’t want to have anthurium in large quantities to give as a gift without spending a euro or simply to  display on the balcony or terrace?

If you want to multiply anthurium endlessly without spending a single penny, you need to divide it into clumps. Then wet the soil, extract the plant by grabbing it by the base, being careful not to break its roots.

Then certain areas are separated by 3 or 5 leaves each  , each plant is placed in a pot with peat, earth and sand. 3 parts of peat, two of soil and one of sand, expose the plant to the sun, spraying it every three days and that’s it.

Cutting method

If, however, you wish to use the cuttings method  which is just as simple, take small parts of the plant and place them in a drawer with the soil made up of 3 parts peat and two parts soil.

Then you squeeze gently, water and wait a few days. In a few weeks the plant will be beautiful, ready to give as a gift. To achieve good results in a short time, you must leave the plant  in a room where it is at least 20 degrees.

It will then be necessary to water it every 3-4 days without exaggerating with the doses and finally repot it every 2-3 years. In reality, the time is only indicative, because to avoid making a mistake, you just have to observe it. The bigger it gets, the more it needs a large pot that can accommodate it.
