7 different planting methods for potato cultivation

If you’re planning to grow your own potatoes, now is a good time to choose your preferred planting method. It’s important to choose the right approach based on your garden space, region, and resources. A few years ago, I conducted a potato growing test using seven different planting methods, highlighting the distinct advantages and disadvantages of each method over the course of the growing season.

Learn about the different planting methods available and highlight those that have proven particularly successful and those that have produced less successful results.

The series method (classical and economical):

Dig straight, shallow trenches 60 cm to 1 m apart in well-prepared soil. Plant the seed potatoes 30 cm apart and cover them with about 8 cm of soil. Mound the soil between the rows when the shoots reach a height of 25 to 30 cm. This proven and cost-effective traditional method is simple and practical for large orchards. However, soil quality can affect yield, so soils with low compaction or low organic matter content are less suitable.
