Why should you leave a cake in the freezer? Here’s its secondary use, which few people know about.

We all know the classic sheet cake, the yellow-green one with one soft side and one scratchy side. It’s often used for washing and degreasing dishes, cleaning the bathroom, and many other surfaces and objects. Its primary use is usually cleaning. However, there’s another, completely unexpected way to use it. Let’s explore it together.
The dishwashing sponge
Yellow and green dish sponges are very common and versatile, found in almost every kitchen. These sponges, primarily used for washing dishes, consist of a softer, usually yellow side and a rougher, green side. Other colors and shapes are also available on the market, but they always consist of a larger, smoother part and a finer, rougher part. Thanks to their texture, they are perfect for a variety of cleaning tasks, both in the kitchen and in other domestic and non-domestic environments.

The smooth side is ideal for gentle soaping and cleaning, while the rough side is especially effective for scraping off stubborn dirt, such as from pots and pans. These sponges are essential for effective cleaning and a valuable tool for simplifying dishwashing and much more, especially when combined with soap or degreaser. However, like many other household items, these sponges can also be used for other purposes: They can be placed in the freezer.
Freezer sponge, an alternative solution
Why do you need to put the cake tin in the freezer? Certainly not to get better results when washing dishes. In fact, for the intended use, it is advisable to use a new sponge. Even if it is new, it is advisable to wash it first to make it softer and at the same time to disinfect it properly. Once this is done, take an airtight food bag and place the cake inside, which you can then put in the freezer.
In a short time, depending on the cooling time of your appliance, you will have turned a simple cake into something really useful: a homemade “instant ice cream”, useful both for bruises and fever and for maintaining the temperature in the cooler.

This gives us a versatile and fully recyclable item. Unlike commercially available refreshing gels, the sponge can be thawed at any time for use in washing dishes or cleaning surfaces or tiles around the home. Furthermore, its small size makes it very convenient to store in the freezer without sacrificing space for food. And if we use the sponge with dish soap to wash dishes, why not keep it in the refrigerator?
Detergent in the freezer
Like a sponge, dishwashing liquid is also very useful when frozen. It can simply be placed in an airtight bag and then placed in the freezer to create an object very similar to sachets of cooling gel. What’s more, in this case, we have a useful product for various needs that has a significantly lower impact on the environment around us.
