An unexpected kitchen hero that keeps aphids away from your plants

Forget chemical products—the trend in gardening is now moving toward natural solutions that are effective, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly. And guess what? You can find the most important ingredient for repelling aphids and protecting your precious plants right in your kitchen: garlic.

Garlic, a surprising remedy against aphids

To ward off aphids and other pesky garden invaders, all you need is a humble clove of garlic. Its pungent aroma acts as a natural repellent, while its sulfur content provides additional protection against common fungal diseases like downy mildew and powdery mildew.

Homemade recipe to repel aphids

With these simple steps you can easily prepare your own garlic preparation:

  1. Chop 500 g of garlic.
  2. Simmer the garlic in 5 liters of water for 20 minutes.
  3. Let the mixture stand for 24 hours away from light.
  4. Strain the mixture and pour it into a spray bottle.

For added effectiveness, you can also add rapeseed oil to the mixture.

Application tips

Once your homemade insecticide is ready, spray it liberally on both sides of the leaves of the affected plants every 3 to 4 days. Remember that the garlic scent must be present continuously to effectively repel aphids. You can also use the mixture as a soil-enriching watering solution. Simply store it in a cool place and use it within 2 weeks to maintain its effectiveness.
