Don’t throw away coffee grounds: they are versatile and useful in many situations at home, in the garden or in the kitchen.
Coffee grounds certainly can’t be reused to make another beverage, but once used, they can certainly be recycled. Below, we suggest some possible uses.
Peelings
The rough texture of coffee grounds can be used to make a skin scrub. Mix 40 grams of coffee grounds with 80 grams of sugar and 50 ml of coconut oil. Apply to damp skin and then rinse off.
Attachment
Adding coffee grounds to your soil helps regulate pH (acidity), increase nitrogen levels, and aerate the soil. They’re especially helpful for tomatoes.
Eliminate bad smells from the refrigerator
Coffee grounds can help absorb and eliminate unpleasant odors from the refrigerator. Remember to change them daily to prevent mold growth.
Melt the ice
If you live in a very cold place, you’ll be happy to know that pouring your coffee grounds on the ice that forms in your yard or on sidewalks can help it melt faster and give your feet more grip. Don’t forget to clean your shoes before entering the house.
You worked with paper
Soaking a few sheets of watercolor paper in a solution of water and coffee grounds gives it an “aged” look, the classic sepia effect.
Watering the roses
Coffee grounds help lower the pH of the soil, which is essential for rose flowering. Pour 80 grams of coffee grounds into 3 liters of water used to water roses.
Cleaning pots and pans
Coffee grounds have a slightly abrasive effect that allows us to remove food residue from pots and pans.
Snail and cat repellents
Use coffee grounds to create barriers in the garden to keep these animals away from the plants.
Growing carrots
Mix coffee grounds into the soil to be used for growing carrots: they contribute to fertilization and promote plant growth.
Clean up the trash
Coffee grounds can be useful for cleaning and deodorizing the trash can.
