Growing avocados at home is easy and affordable for everyone. We start with a large seed inside the fruit and, with the help of stakes, we can grow a small tree that, with luck, may bear fruit in the future. Below, we’ll explain how to do it.
Just give us an avocado , from which we’ll remove the large central seed. Once it’s well washed, we’ll place three or four cross-shaped stakes, as shown in the photo. The idea is to place it in the jar without completely submerging it.
The avocado seed should be placed in a glass filled with water and placed in a bright corner of the house. You should wait until the roots develop, which usually takes two to four weeks (depending on light and temperature). The roots should reach a length of 10 centimeters.
Once you’ve reached this length, remove the stakes and water, and replant the avocado in a pot with universal soil. It will take about a month for the first leaves to develop.
Avocados need to be planted in the ground in spring. They need plenty of water, which should be applied whenever the soil surface becomes dry. Organic fertilizer can be added to optimize results.
The avocado takes about six years to bear fruit. It requires a lot of patience, but the results will be satisfying.
