A trick to make worn pans non-stick again

In recent decades,  skillet frying pans have  enjoyed immense popularity due to their practical features. These pans, almost always coated with Teflon, have revolutionized the way we cook at home.

Over time, these pans lose their  non-stick properties  and, in some cases, even become hazardous to health. If they become scratched, for example, they must  be disposed of and replaced immediately .

Non-stick  pans  can be restored, and it’s not as difficult as it seems. There are many different methods, each of which will help make the pan look like new again.

How to restore a non-stick pan

The most common method is to use an oil to coat the surface layer of the pan.

Peanut oil

Before using this method, you should thoroughly clean the pan to remove any stains or food residue. After thoroughly cleaning and drying the pan, apply a thin layer of peanut oil to the surface and then place it on the stove for 60-90 seconds.

Once the pan has cooled, remove any remaining oil. Then, clean the pan with a soft sponge.

You can repeat this process every 6 months, but if you use a dishwasher, you may need to do it every 4 months.

Coconut oil

Place the pan on the stove and heat it gently. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 150 degrees.

Apply a little coconut oil to the inside of the pan, making sure to spread it evenly. The oil layer should be about 2 centimeters thick. Place in the oven for at least 2 hours.

The heat from the oven allows the oil to coat the entire surface of the pan. After two hours, turn off the oven and let the pan cool overnight so the oil can dry.

Vinegar and baking soda

This remedy is one of the most effective. Pour 250 ml of water, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, and 125 ml of white vinegar into the pan. Wait until the steam stops, then turn on the stove and simmer for 10 minutes.

Let it cool, discard the liquid, and dry the pan thoroughly. Then, while the pan is still warm, apply vegetable oil.
