Mold buildup inside your  washing machine  can be a real nuisance, especially when it’s in  hard-to-clean places  . But all is not lost: There are  methods to effectively remove it . You can also  take simple steps  to address the root cause and  prevent mold growth . Here’s how.

Why does mold grow?

Mold  proliferates in  damp, poorly ventilated spaces with little natural light . It’s only natural, then, that household appliances like  refrigerators, dishwashers, and washing machines that use water or steam  are among the first  to be affected by this problem. In  washing machines ,  mold tends to grow in places like the  seals ,  basket ,  filter  , and  detergent dispenser .

It’s very important  to properly remove mold  and  prevent its growth . Mold not only causes  unpleasant odors  and  damaged clothing , but is also caused by fungi that  are hazardous to health  .

Mold removal with lemon and white vinegar

The  detergent drawer  is one of the   most prone to  mold growth. Why is this? There are many reasons: Water, moisture, fabric softener, and detergent residue  are all factors that contribute to mold growth. Thanks to  white vinegar and lemon,  with their  degreasing and disinfecting  properties, you can solve this problem and   remove mold from the detergent drawer. How does it work?

Simply prepare a  mixture  by  combining 1/4 cup of lemon juice  with  1/2 cup of diluted white vinegar  , then   adding  2 cups of water . Now, simply pour the resulting mixture  into the detergent drawer and  let it work . It’s advisable to use a spray bottle for this   , as it makes applying the solution easier. It’s also advisable  to wear gloves and a dust mask  to  ensure adequate protection against mold .

After  the vinegar and lemon  have worked, you can use a  cloth  to thoroughly clean the detergent dispenser and remove the  mold  . The  corners  will be a little more difficult to clean, but a  toothbrush  will make it easier.

As  an alternative  to vinegar and lemon, you can also make the same solution with  water and hydrogen peroxide  .
