Oh, how precious are these old Soviet brick factories, operating since the 60s and 70s, where the clay is carefully baked in ovens! These factories employ people of the old school…

Experienced builders appreciate the quality of Soviet bricks, which is evidenced by durable brick houses that have withstood harsh winters, scorching sun and strong winds for decades.

Modern consumers often prefer new, perfectly straight bricks, while old bricks with their irregular geometry and uneven dimensions remain in demand only for the construction of auxiliary structures and non-standard objects. These stones are simply packaged in factories for transportation to customers.

I consciously chose this brick to build my house; I needed 16,000 pieces, of which 12,000 were used for the facade and the rest for interior walls.

The neighbors laughed and found it strange that I chose such a brick instead of a modern and beautiful brick. But its unique geometry was important to me…

Due to the way Soviet bricks are made, one side is always rougher, and I used this side for the visible parts of my house’s brick walls.

Before laying, I dipped this side in a weatherproof coat, then dried it in the sun and placed it back on the pallets.

Due to its structure, the clay absorbed the composition to a depth of about 5 mm and the color remained unchanged even after rain and wind. The main thing is to paint in dry weather.

The bricks I painted (12,000 pieces) gave my house a unique look in 2 months. Each stone is unique in its pattern and texture!

This is what the facade looked like 5 years after the construction I started in 2017. In 2020 we already celebrated the inauguration ceremony…

And not only that…

The same brick served me as a material for internal partitions. Inside the house, the interior is designed in a loft style with exposed wooden beams and brick walls…

And this structural brick gives the interior its very special charm thanks to its texture.

This is what white painted walls look like:

I think this is a stylish solution. Smooth brick wouldn’t look so interesting here!

Yes, working with such stones is difficult. The usual level is powerless here due to the unevenness and curvature of the brick, the walls are laid mainly plumb, but the result exceeds all expectations!

In addition, the brick in this design looks richer and more textured than even expensive clinker. So!
