Experiment with growing tomatoes in this unconventional way! You will probably be impressed with the results. This method is great for regions with hot, dry climates where it rarely rains. Tomatoes will grow without any special worries, without staking and frequent watering, and will delight you with a rich harvest until the first frost.

Dense planting of tomato seedlings
Prepare a hole for tomato seedlings. Its depth should be about 10-12 cm.

Plant the tomato seedlings in a row close together, leaving about 20 cm between the plants.

Now each plant should be watered at the root. Distribute 1 liter of water between four plants.

Then the tomatoes must be planted deeper, up to the height of the second true leaves. Don’t worry: the plant will form roots along the entire length of the stem.

In the attached photo you can see how tightly packed the tomatoes are. Nevertheless, it is precisely thanks to this planting and the absence of watering (plus the hilling procedure described below) that a rich harvest can be expected without any additional care!

Note! The soil for tomatoes should be fertile and enriched with compost.

Hilling Tomatoes
One to two days after planting, tomatoes need to be hilled like potatoes. To do this, simply cover the plants with soil on both sides, leaving only the top visible.

Lift 2-3 times until the tomatoes grow and fall to the ground. Thanks to this process, there will always be enough moisture in the soil coma, while avoiding excess, which often leads to fungal diseases in tomatoes.

Harvest
The tomato plant quickly grows a stem, leaves and roots, it gradually falls to the ground and grows exactly as it pleases. The tomatoes begin to form many fruits and bring a rich harvest.

The fruits are ripe and sweet and do not require additional watering. The hilling method creates a ball of earth around the root system, which constantly retains moisture. If there is enough organic matter (compost) in the soil, the tomato harvest will be impressive! Try to arrange at least one low-maintenance tomato bed in the new season, and you will not want to return to traditional cultivation methods. No garters, diseases or watering, and the harvest will be so plentiful that it will even be enough to distribute to neighbors.
