There is a quick and easy way to water plants even if you are away from home for a while.

Anyone who has one or more plants in their home or garden knows how important it is to pay special attention to watering, so that the plants are vigorous and exuberant and to guarantee them a long life. Care and dedication are, therefore, essential to be able to fully admire the beauty of plants.

But what do you do when you have to be away from home for a while? The first thing that comes to mind is to contact someone we trust (friends, family, partner, co-workers) to water the plants. However, there is also a method that allows plants to continue receiving the water they need even without turning to other people.

Watering plants when you are not at home: the foolproof method
The first thing to do is get two plastic bottles, one larger and one smaller. We will have to cut the last part of the largest bottle: starting from the bottom, we calculate six centimeters in height and proceed to make the cut. Once this is done, we take the smaller bottle and place it vertically inside the bottom of the larger bottle. With a marker, we will also mark the maximum limit of the tank on the small bottle, which will coincide with the height of the bottom of the larger bottle.

Water the plants
Half a centimeter below this mark, which we will leave with the marker, we will make a small square (if possible with a marker of a different color). With a cutter, remove the plastic from this square to create a small window through which the water can pass.
Once this is done, take a piece of fabric and make a strip of about 35 centimeters long. This strip of fabric will be placed over a piece of aluminum foil, which will be wrapped around the strip. We will have to be careful to remove about 4 centimeters of fabric from the wrapped sheet. All that is left is to fold the wrapped aluminum and place it inside the bottom of the plastic bottle where we have already placed the smaller bottle.

The method is also perfect for vases
What we are doing is nothing more than drip irrigation. The base must be placed on the ground, half a centimeter deep: inside, we will place the smallest plastic bottle filled with water, which will come out through the window and fill the bottom part (which will act as a reservoir). Once this is done, the wrapped (and folded) aluminum is applied to the inside of the base, which will act more like a sprinkler. In the blink of an eye, drops of water will begin to come out of the sprinkler, watering the soil around the plants.

Water the plants
But what happens if we realize that watering is too fast? Don’t worry, irrigation can also be regulated. Simply squeeze the wrapped leaf tighter so that the water passes more slowly and ensures good watering. This method is also perfect for the pots we have at home, as long as we use some type of small container to hold the irrigation system. The idea is truly sensational, and allows you to go on vacation even for a few weeks without the plants being affected.
