A classic apple pie with a flaky crust and a spicy filling. Perfect for any occasion, this recipe captures the fall flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and apples.
Ingredients
- Double Crust Pie Dough
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 6 – 7 cups green apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 egg white
- Brown sugar and cinnamon optional
- Vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce optional.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- In a bowl, mix sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Add sliced apples and lemon juice.
- Roll out half of the dough and place it in a pie pan. Pour the apple filling and distribute the butter in small pieces over the surface.
- Cover with the second half of the dough, sealing the edges. Make small cuts on the top to let the steam escape.
- Brush with egg white and, if desired, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
