Ingredients
- 300g of flour
- 3 eggs
- 50g butter
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Grated zest of 1 orange
- Honey (as much as needed)
- Colored sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
- Preparation of the dough:
- Place the flour in a fountain shape on a pastry board.
- In the center, add the eggs, softened butter, sugar and grated orange zest.
- Mix the ingredients until you obtain a smooth, homogeneous mixture.
- Formation of the balls:
- Divide the dough into small pieces and shape into thin loaves.
- Cut the loaves into pieces of about 1 cm and shape each into a ball.
- Frying:
- Heat plenty of oil in a deep pan.
- Fry the balls a few at a time, making sure they are evenly golden.
- Drain them on absorbent paper to remove excess oil.
- Honey glaze:
- In a large saucepan, heat the honey until it becomes runny.
- Add the fried struffoli and mix gently to completely coat them in honey.
- Decoration:
- Arrange the struffoli on a serving dish, giving them the desired shape (traditionally a donut or pyramid).
- Decorate with colored sprinkles and, if you like, candied fruit.
