Is it possible to grow an orchid without roots? Here is the method you need to follow to revive it and make it bloom again. Under no circumstances should you throw it away.
The orchid is a plant that does not require much care and is usually found as an ornamental plant in homes. However, some care is certainly necessary, otherwise our orchid will die and it will not be easy to recover it. Commit to following the little secrets you need to have a healthy and flowering orchid.
First of all, location, temperature and sunlight are very important. Therefore, it is advisable to place the orchid in a place in the house where there are no drafts or radiators. Then we recommend a temperature of around 20°C and finally non-direct sunlight.
So watering is also very important, the plant must always be moist, neither dry nor full of water. If these small steps are not followed, the plant can suffer consequences: flowers that fall, leaves that turn yellow and rotten roots that need to be cut beyond repair. We will look at the latter case, that is, growing an orchid without roots.
Here’s what you need to do if you have an orchid with no roots.
If you have an orchid with rotten roots, it’s better to cut them off than leave them there. To do this, you must first remove the orchid from the pot and cut the rotten roots with scissors. If you need to remove them all, don’t worry and do it. In fact, there is a way to grow completely healthy roots, and now we will see.
After completely cutting the roots, also remove all the branches and cut the base where the roots attach well. At this point, you can pour turmeric or cinnamon over it to disinfect the area and prevent mold growth.
They will go further to perform the procedure than is normally done. Normally the roots are watered with water, but this time we are going to water the leaves with water. Just take a completely transparent glass, as the light needs to pass through, and place the leaves in it with about 4 or 5 cm of water. To avoid dropping the root, help yourself with a toothpick.
At this point, all you need to do is wait. In the first 15 days you will see very small swellings, which means the method is working. Within 3 to 4 months you will start to see roots a few inches long. Always remember to add water when it runs out of the glass.
When the roots reach about 15 centimeters in length, it’s time to replant your orchid. This orchid will have difficulty adhering to the soil, so we will use more products to plant it: clay pellets, pine bark and moss to speed up root formation.
We always take a plastic cup and cut the bottom off like a vase. We added clay balls to the soil to help with drainage and then added pine and moss. At this point, generously spray the moss and add the orchid. Finally add more pine bark. This is where your orchid will be reborn.
