In today’s society, there’s a lot of pressure to have a perfect, flawless complexion. Culturally, things like age spots, moles, skin tags, blackheads, and warts are simply not desirable. While your doctor or dermatologist can prescribe many remedies for these conditions, natural skin care products and techniques can be just as effective at a significantly lower cost and with fewer side effects. Here’s how to treat these common skin concerns naturally.

For
many skin problems, highly effective treatments are available from your doctor or dermatologist. The only problem is that they can be expensive and can sometimes even damage the healthy surrounding skin. These traditional treatments can even potentially leave scars. Fortunately, natural skin care offers many options for initially treating these conditions at home. As always, monitor your skin for signs of unwanted side effects. If the problem persists, consult your doctor or dermatologist.

Throughout our lives, we are exposed to many elements. The most important of these is our own sun. Although we need sunlight for our health, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can be very damaging to the skin. Often, this damage only becomes visible decades later in the form of so-called age spots. Age spots are simply hyperpigmentation of the skin, the darkening of certain areas or spots caused by sun exposure and damage.

The first and most important aspect of age spots is prevention. Starting at a young age, you should use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 daily, even in winter and on cloudy days. You should also wear sun-protective clothing like hats and sunglasses. However, if you’ve already developed age spots, you can reduce their appearance with some natural skincare remedies.

Apple cider vinegar: Studies show that the acetic acid in apple cider vinegar (ACV) can lighten skin pigmentation. To use apple cider vinegar on your skin, you must first mix it with equal parts water, otherwise it will be too harsh. Apply the mixture to the dark spots and leave it on for two to three minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and repeat twice daily.
